Minot Police Struggle With Daniel Dumas, Dumas Assaults Officer

SUMMARY OF CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING INCIDENT: On 6/13/19 at 0106 hours, Officers initiated a traffic stop in the 300 block of E. Burdick. Officers identified the passenger as Daniel Dumas, after he provided a false name, and it was determined Dumas had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Officers approached the Dumas to have him exit the vehicle and Dumas began reaching for unknown items inside the vehicle.


A struggle ensued between officers and Dumas while he was still inside the vehicle. During the struggle, Dumas assaulted the police officer causing injury. Dumas was Tased in the process and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene with Dumas still inside.


Officers pursued the vehicle until it stopped in the 2000 block of 5TH ST NW and Dumas
fled into a nearby apartment building.


Dumas forced open an apartment door that was occupied by tenants and attempted to hide inside the apartment then fled into another apartment. A perimeter was set up on the apartment and Dumas eventually gave up peacefully to Officers.


Dumas was placed under arrest for Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Preventing Arrest, Assault on a Police Officer, Criminal Trespass, Possession of Schedule II with Intent to Deliver, Possessing of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Paraphernalia – Other, Possession of Cocaine, Refusal to Halt, False Information to Law Enforcement.
