CHEYENNE,Wyo.— On April 16, The Cheyenne Police Department responded to a fatal traffic crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Hayes Ave. The crash took place shortly after 11:00 a.m. when a Polaris Ranger side-by-side was northbound on Hayes Ave. and entered the intersection where it was struck by a Range Rover that was westbound on Highway U.S. 30.
The Polaris was overturned in the accident and the passenger, Clara Newton, 81, of Cheyenne, was partially-ejected. Newton sustained serious injuries in the crash and could not be revived. The driver and passenger of the Range Rover were transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical center for treatment and the driver of the Polaris received medical attention at the scene of the crash. All occupants involved in the crash were using seat belts.
An accident reconstruction of this crash is being performed. The investigation accounts for speeds and driver impairment as well as any other factors which could have caused the crash. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing and at the conclusion, officers will be able to determine what, if any traffic violations occurred.
