CHEYENNE,Wyo.— The Cheyenne Police Department has arrested Gabriel Villalva, 27, of Greeley, CO, following a vehicle pursuit which took place in the afternoon of September 19.
The CPD received numerous calls regarding a gold SUV driving recklessly throughout town. At about 2:00 p.m., our officers located the vehicle in the area of near 8th Ave. and Central Ave.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and Villalva, who was driving the SUV, refused to stop. Villalva led officers on a pursuit which lasted approximately 15 minutes. Villalva led officers on a pursuit in the area of Lion’s Park and drove onto the Cheyenne Country Club golf course, causing damage to the course.
While fleeing from officers, Villalva struck a CPD police car involved in the pursuit with his vehicle and swerved towards another officer who was out of his vehicle. Officers were able to deploy spike strips, which successfully stopped the vehicle in the 3600 block of Hynds Ave.
While Villalva's vehicle was stopped, he continued to apply the accelerator and the vehicle became engulfed in fire.
Villalva remained uncooperative with officers who eventually utilized beanbag rounds to secure Villalva and place him into custody. The Cheyenne Fire Department extinguished the vehicle fire and Villalva was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for minor injuries. Villalva was later released from CRMC and arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless driving, felony destruction of property, fleeing/eluding, and DUI. This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
