Minot AFB man, 22-Year-Old Jacob Ellis Pronounced Dead

Summary of circumstances surrounding the incident are as follows:

The crash involved a Red 2014 Suzuki GSX 1300 Motorcycle driven by Jacob Ellis, and a White 2012 GMC Yukon with 7 occupants, driven by Kendo Carlson.


The Red Suzuki was northbound on 13th St. SE at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection of 31st Ave SE.

 

The White Yukon was eastbound on 31st Ave. SE.

The White Yukon approached the intersection of the two roadways and stopped at the stop sign.

 

The driver of the White Yukon (Carlson) reported seeing the Red Suzuki, but believed that there was enough time to proceed straight through the intersection of 31st Ave and 13th St. SE.

 

The Yukon proceeded through the intersection the Suzuki struck the Yukon on the front passenger side.

 

The driver of the Suzuki (Ellis) was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash. Both vehicles caught fire and sustained significant fire damage. The driver of the Suzuki, 22 year old Jacob Ellis of Minot AFB, was pronounced dead shortly after impact.  Kendo Carlson age 41 from Minot was also involved in the crash.

 

Several occupants of the Yukon sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and were transported by personal vehicle to Trinity Hospital for treatment. The investigation is still ongoing.

 

Agencies that were involved were the Minot Police Department, Fire Department and the Community Ambulance service including the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
