Billings Mt.,--//MNA Press//-- 10 candidates have thrown their hat into the political ring, all with expectations of becoming the next ward #4 Council seat that has a remaining term of (2) years that former Councilman Ryan Sullivan was elected.
Former Councilman Ryan Sullivan was forced to give up his city councilman seat due to his employment obligations that required him to move.
In a brief summary, the Montana News wants to highlight areas of each candidate. Second Ward #4 Candidate is:
Shirley Girard McDermott.
Shirley McDermott lives at 5943 Fox trail Lane in Billings. Shirley McDermott was a past City Council Councilwoman for Ward #1 where she served (2) two terms.
McDermott was instrumental in helping support Ryan Sullivan’s City Council Ward #4 campaign and now she finds herself seeking the same seat that she help Sullivan obtain.
Shirley McDermott was against “leapfrog development and certain zone changes” She states that she will continue to be in opposition to such.
McDermott has suffered from losing her husband to cancer but, if you sit down and talk with her, you can tell that she has a wealth of experience and zest for life which drives her to be who she is.
McDermott retired from the Department of Interior after (12) years and retired from the Bureau of Land Management after (8) years.
McDermott has had a long history with temp work details in Washington D.C. regarding special projects that she was assigned to.
Shirley McDermott worked in the private industry in the account and finance fields both in Seattle, WA and San Francisco, CA office.
Currently Shirley is a member at large for the Phillips 66 Citizen’s Advisory Council.
McDermott served as the Montana Governor’s Board of Reality Regulation, public member for (2) terms.
When living in Laurel, McDermott was on the City of Laurel Downtown TIF District Committee and served as President and was on the Laurel Planning Board.
In Billings she was City Council woman for Ward #1 and served (2) terms then served on the City of Billings Board of Adjustment and the North Park Neighborhood Task Force as chairperson.
So in summary Shirley McDermott has a plethora of experience such as supervisory and management experience in the public and the private world.
Her ability to handle high finance, human resource management and her education experience gives great ability to deal with job classifications, EEO Counseling, Native American Program Manager and individual communication skills both private and public.
Her Labor relations and negotiation skills are in high demand.
