According to Sheriff Mike Linder of the yellowstone County Sheriff Department, at approximately 6:30 this morning, Deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Canary Ave. in Lockwood, to check the welfare of a possible suicidal person. When the deputies arrived, they attempted to make contact with anyone inside the house. One of the Deputies heard what he described as "heavy" footsteps rapidly approaching the door and then the door swing open.

As the deputy shined his flashlight and looked inside the residence, he was confronted by a subject with a handgun. Shots were fired, although at the time of this release it is unknown the sequence of the shots or exactly how many shots were fired.

The subject in the house, who identifies as a male, was struck by a bullet and was transported to a local hospital. It was determined at the hospital that the subject was hit one time and is expected to survive. The identity of the person who was shot is not being released at this time. Detectives have applied for a search warrant and are currently at the scene conducting an investigation.

The Deputies involved who fired their weapons are Deputy Tyler Sennett, who has been with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's for approximately one and one half years and Deputy Brendan Trujillo, who joined the YCSO in September 2017. Trujillo also has approximately 6 years of previous law enforcement experience with another agency.

Neither Deputy was injured. Per standard procedure, both deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave pending a review of this incident.
