TYPE OF INCIDENT: Serious Injury Accident
According to Sergeant Bret Becker of the Billings Police Department, on 11/15/17 at approximately 0034 hours Billings Police received a report from the 3G’s gas station at State and Orchard Lane that a traffic accident had just occurred immediately north of this location.
Montana Rail Link workers who were on duty also reported witnessing a green Ford Crown Victoria travelling at a high rate of speed, eastbound on State Avenue. They observed the vehicle fail to negotiate the turn, leave the north side of the roadway, strike the railroad tracks, and flip onto its top.
Officers and medical units quickly arrived on scene. As officers were arriving two occupants of the vehicle left a third injured occupant, a local 32 year old Billings male, with the vehicle and fled on foot.
Medical personnel attended to the male who was left behind and the other two males were detained by police approximately two blocks away and were brought back to the scene. Neither of these two males, whom are 22 and 38 years old, were seriously injured, however one was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. Both appeared to be intoxicated.
The male that they had left with the vehicle was determined to be driver. Personnel on scene observed several indications that this male was under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated and further investigation resulted in him being charged with DUI.
