Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office in honoring the life Deputy David L. Briese Jr., who died in the line of duty on November 3, 2006.
Deputy David Briese was killed in an automobile accident on I-90, near King Avenue West in Billings, while responding to backup an officer who was dealing with a combative drunk driver.
The deputy was passing another vehicle when his patrol car left the roadway, overturned, and struck a large sign. He was transported to Billings Clinic where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

In remembrance of Deputy Briese’s service and ultimate sacrifice, a portion of Interstate 90, from mile marker 445 to 451, is to be designated as the David Briese Memorial Highway. Signs have been erected and will be un-veiled during this ceremony.
When: Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 am.
Where: We will gather at Mile Marker 451 on I-90
(Westbound side of I-90, coming from Lockwood)
(If the weather is bad, rain, snow high winds, etc. we will meet at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility courtroom instead of on the highway)
Billings Representative Jimmy Patelis will read the bill he carried in the last legislative session, which creates the David Briese Memorial Highway.
Refreshments will be served in the courtroom at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility, 3165 King avenue East, after the ceremony.
Deputy Briese had served with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office for 5 years. He had previously served with the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office for 1 year and the Yellowstone County Detention Center for 5 years. He is survived by his wife, two young sons, stepdaughter, sister, and parents.
