On Aug. 21, 2017 at 5:47 PM, the Minot Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the 500 block of 11th Ave. NE.
An additional report indicated a male walking in that yelling and carrying a gun. Officers arrived on scene and took the individual into custody without incident.
A shotgun was located and seized and the male, who was identified as 19 year old Mauricio Colindres, was arrested for Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits.
Did in fact the Minot Police Department arrest the young man for open carrying a weapon? or was the actual arrest made due to the fact that the 19-year-old discharged a firearm in the city limits?
According to the City of Minot Legal Department, their is a law that prohibits the discharge of a firearm in the city limits. Based on that legal fact alone, it would lead one to summarize that the 19-year-old was arrested for the illegal discharge and not for open carrying.
