At 0334 hours on 08-20-17, Officers responded the 3100 block of Washington Street for a reported assault where the victim’s vehicle had been stolen.
Officers responded and learned that the victim, a 67 year old male from Mesquite, TX, was checked out of his hotel room and was getting ready to leave in his vehicle when he was approached by an adult male.
The male assaulted the victim and pulled him out of the car.
Once out of the vehicle, the assault continued.
The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
The victim was later transported by private vehicle to the hospital. The vehicle is described as black 2011 Ford Crown Victoria with a cracked windshield and Texas plates- CLR5393.
The suspect in the assault and vehicle theft are believe to be Eddie Sanchez, 45 of Helena.
This incident appears to be related to a vehicle pursuit that Montana Highway Patrol was involved in at approximately 0001 hours.
That pursuit was terminated when Helena Police used spike strips on the vehicle on I-15 near Custer. The vehicle crashed and the driver who is believed to be Sanchez fled on foot. A search of the area was conducted but Sanchez could not be located.
A statewide attempt to locate was placed for Sanchez.
Law Enforcement is currently working on obtaining arrest warrants for Sanchez. Sanchez is described as approximately 6’2” tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. We do not have details on the pursuit, that information will need to be obtained from MHP.
