Billings man Robert Jay Cluff was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. According to Police reports, July 29 2017 Billings Police Officers Richardson and Bishop were sent to the address of 221 1/2 Grand Ave for a report of an Assault in progress.
As they pulled up at that address, a female was in the yard crying and had blood running down her face from her nose. The female victim told officers that her roommate attacked her and that he was intoxicated.
The female victim told Officers that she was friends with Robert Jay Cluff but that that was it. This morning she woke up to discover that Robert Cluff was in her bed naked. Yelling at Robert only produced incoherent words.
According to the female victim Robert then got up, hugged her, then grabbed her around the neck and started to choke her, knocking her down to the floor. Robert Cluff climbed on top of the female victim and stated that he was "I'm going to kill you."
He then grabbed her neck and started to strangle her with both of his hands. At some point in the struggle the female victim, managed to get on top of Robert as he continued to hang on to her neck choking her to the point that she was having problems breathing.
The female told the police officers that she felt that she was going to die and that she believed Robert when he said that he was going to kill her.
When the police found Robert, he was downstairs sleeping naked. Police were able to find some shorts to have him dress in so that they could arrest him. Cluff was very intoxicated and had blood on his hands.
This case is being prosecuted by Molly Rose Fehringer who is a Deputy County Attorney for the Yellowstone County Attorney’s Office.
