According to a press release that Sergeant Shane Winden prepared on 7/24/17 at 1132 hrs, Police and Medical response units were dispatched to a crash with injuries at N. 31st and 2nd Ave N.
A 2003 gold Chevrolet van driven by a 59 yr old Billings man was traveling north on N. 31st St. The van failed to yield at the intersection of 2nd Ave N and struck a 1998 Ford Explorer that was eastbound through the downtown area.
The van struck the passenger side of the Explorer and sent it onto the vehicles drivers’ side and roof.
The Explorer was occupied by a 31 yr old Billings female and her two children, a 12 yr old boy and an 8 month old male infant. During the collision, the 8 mth old infant was ejected and became pinned underneath the Explorer.
Witnesses on the scene lifted the vehicle in order to remove the infant as emergency responders arrived on scene.
The infant was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s hospital and later taken by Life Flight to Salt Lake City.
The infant is stable at this time.
The female driver was also transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s hospital where she was admitted and is listed in stable condition. The 12 yr old boy suffered minor injuries and was released.
The Billings Police crash investigations team arrived on scene and the intersection is currently closed. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is on-going.
