Billings Mt.,//press//--May 3, 2017Two city law enforcement divisions were involved in this case. The Great Falls Police Department and the Billings Police Department. According to a court hearing, the Great Falls Police Department contacted the Billings Police Department regarding a stolen motorcycle that they were tipped off may be in the Billings area, possibly at the address of 406 Grand Ave and that the suspect in this was Craig Thomas Murnion.
The Motocycle was stolen from Great Falls Montana. The Motorcycle in question was a Harley Davidson. Billings Police responded to the address of 406 Grand Ave. Officers observed the Craig Thomas Murnion and the stolen Harley Davidson.
As Officers pulled up to that address, Craig Murnion was talking to another male individual. Both men attempted to flee from the Billings Police Officers, however, Murnion was apprehended.
While the officers were trying to pat down Murnion, they noticed that Murnion was wearing an empty gun holster . Upon searching the area, Police Officers were able to recover a Smith and Weston .45 pistol. Murnion was questioned about the gun, but he denied that the gun was his, instead he asserted to the Officers that he had just been at the gun range earlier with a 9mm and that he had left the gun at his mother's home.
When Billings police officers ran the serial number they learned that the pistol that was recovered was actually stolen. Both the gun and the Harley Davidson were from Great Falls as the owner of both those assets reported them as stolen in Great Falls Montana.
Murnion was arrested and charged with (1) count of theft. Murnion claimed that he had gotten stranded the day before in Great Falls an that he called his friend "Mike" who he did not know his Mike's last name. "Mike" sold him a motorcycle for $5,500.00 Then Murnion stated that he had bought the gun from a guy by the name of "Sticky" at the Warden Casino. Murnion did not provide any further information to the Officers.
