City Of Minot N.D. Hires Local CPA As New City Finance Director

New leadership will take the reins of the City of Minot Finance Department in April. David
Lakefield, a local Certified Public Accountant, has been named the new Finance Director for the
City and will begin his tenure on April 3.

“We’re really excited to have David join our team,” says City Manager, Tom Barry. “He brings a
broad skill set that will be very beneficial for our Finance Department and the City of Minot.”

Mr. Lakefield has owned and operated his own business, Liberty Tax Service, since 2003. He
spent eight years as an educator in accounting and finance at Minot State University, the University
of Mary and Central Michigan University.


Before that he was previously employed at MLT Vacations as an Accounts Payable Supervisor. Before changing careers, David spent time protecting and serving the community as a Patrol officer, Narcotics investigator and was a member of the City of Minot SWAT team. He served in the Minot Police Department for nine years.

“It’s exciting to come back to the City of Minot,” says Lakefield. “No doubt the City has a lot on
its plate right now, but I’m excited to be part of the leadership that gets to move our community
into the next chapter.”

Lakefield points to the current Flood Control project as a top priority.

“It’s the elephant in the room, so to speak, it needs to be at the forefront of my mind,” says Lakefield.

As the new Finance Director, Mr. Lakefield’s role will be to manage all of the City's assets, including
the development of the annual budget. He will also be tasked with conducting bond
sales, sitting on various pension boards and having responsibility for the City's internal financial
