According to Sgt. Matt Chaney of the Billings Police Department, Billings Police were dispatched to a shooting which occurred at the Rimrock Mall.
Multiple Officers arrived on scene and discovered that a male and female suspect were in the process of shoplifting when they were confronted by an armed citizen in the parking lot who told the suspects they could not leave.
The armed citizen attempted to block the suspects in by standing behind the vehicle. The armed citizen was open carrying a sidearm and told the suspects if they tried to run him over he would shoot them.
The suspects attempted to back into the armed citizen who pulled his sidearm and fired several shots into the tires of the vehicle. The vehicle was able to drive away headed southbound.
The suspects vehicle was reported to be a 2009 black Buick Enclave. The shoplifting suspects have not been identified at this time. The armed citizen who fired the shots was questioned at the scene and then released. At this time no one was injured in the altercation and the investigation is continuing.
