According to Sergeant Shane Winden of the Billings Police Department, on 2/6/17 at approx. 1143 hrs, police dispatch was advised of a threat of a school shooting at Senior High School. The report was received by Officer Hillier who is the school resource officer. A 16 year old former student of the school was reported to have posted warnings on a social media site to his friends.
The school was locked down while officers investigated the call. The suspect was found by officers a short time later walking near his home and detained.
Once the school was cleared and found to be safe, the lock down was released and students were allowed to return to classes. The lock down was released at 1220 hrs.
Miles Elementary School was also locked down during the same time.
While looking for the suspect in the Senior High incident, a report of what someone thought to be a gun shot was reported near the elementary school.
The school was locked down due to the ongoing investigation at Senior. Officers responded but did not locate any sign of a disturbance. Officer did remain on scene at the elementary school until they were advised of the arrest on the 16 yr old suspect.
The 16 yr old juvenile male was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Billings Youth Detention Facility on 1 count of Intimidation 45-5-203(2) , 1 count of resisting arrest and 1 count of Obstructing a Peace officer (both misdemeanors). The police report# is 17-8160
