Billings man Tyler James Sexton was arrested and charged with robbery and a weapons enhancement charge according to a Court hearing. On September 29, 2016, Billings po0lice officers were called to a report of a stolen vehicle at Papa John’s Pizza located at 305 24th street.
Two employees from the Papa John’s Pizza store were leaving the store to make a night bank drop. The two employees are Cameron Ryan and Kenneth Plessinger. Plessinger had already entered his car. He notices a man standing ar0und the corner of the building; as he sat in his vehicle. Plessinger notice that the man now known as Tyler James Sexton was holding a black semi-automatic weapon and was trying to hide from being visible.
Sexton finally stepped out into the open and pointed his gun at Cameron Ryan and demanded that Ryan hand the night deposit bag over to him. Cameron Ryan was compliant with the robber and handed him the money for fear that he was going to be shot if he did not hand the money over to the robber.
Kenneth Plessinger saw that the man was on foot and that the robber took off running. Plessinger gave chase in his car. As Plessinger was chasing Tyler James Sexton, Plessinger notice another male that appeared to be with Sexton. Plessinger stopped chasing the two suspects and headed back to the Pizza shop.
In the course of the investigation Detective Hallam spoke to a Brittany Ersland who told the Billings Detective that she and Austin Keierleber were hanging out at another friend’s house. She did not have any idea that Austin Keierleber and Tyler James Sexton were planning on robbing anything. Brittany Hallam left and went home.
At about 2:33 a.m. Brittany Ersland received a phone call from Tyler James Sexton who wanted her to pick them up because the place was swarming with cops.
Ersland drove to the parking lot of Anytime Fitness off of 24th street West and picked them up. She stated to the Detective that Sexton had a weapon in his hand which he told her was a pellet gun and not a gun.
Ersland asked what they did and she was told that he, Sexton robbed Papa John’s. Sexton also told Ersland that Keierleber just stood there and did nothing. When asked about where the gun was, Ersland told the Detective that she did not know where the gun was and that neither the defendant nor Keierleber told her what happened to neither the money nor the gun.
