Crashes Reduced After High Visibility Traffic Enforcement
CHEYENNE,Wyo.— The Cheyenne Police Department has seen a decrease in traffic crashes at four intersections in the city where officers have been conducting high visibility traffic enforcement.
Crashes have been reduced by an average of about 40 percent at the intersections of Yellowstone Road and Dell Range, Yellowstone Road and Carlson Street, Dell Range and Converse Avenue, and Dell Range and Ridge Road.
The department’s traffic unit and patrol division have conducted close to 600 hours of high visibility traffic enforcement at these intersections over the past several months. These intersections were chosen for high visibility traffic enforcement based on the number and severity of crashes that have occurred at each location.
The focus on high visibility enforcement at city intersections will continue through the rest of this year in an effort to decrease traffic accidents. Additionally, the traffic unit will continue to focus on red light enforcement at problem intersections. So far this year the Cheyenne Police Department has issued 541 red light citations. This is an increase from the same time period last year where 317 red light citations were issued.
