Southern Baptist Convention Passes Resolution Supporting Israel

June 20, 2016

ST.LOUIS, MO - The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) passed a resolution promoting prayer and support for Israel during its recent annual meeting. This resolution comes at a critical time. In 2005, the global movement of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) was initiated against Israel. But 23 states have passed resolutions supporting Israel and opposing BDS, and that number continues to grow.

The SBC resolution states, in part, that "we support the right of Israel to exist as a sovereign state and reject any activities that attack that right by promoting economic, cultural, and academic boycotts against Israel."

"There has never been a more important time for Christians to support Israel and its right to exist as a sovereign nation," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. Staver served on the SBC Resolutions Committee. "I am pleased that this year's Southern Baptist Convention took a stand in support of Israel and in opposition to the BDS movement. Frankly, with Israel as a world leader in technological and medical inventions, it is foolish to boycott Israel," said Staver.

Liberty Counsel also developed the Liberty Ambassador Counsel and Covenant Journey programs to connect Americans to Israel by strengthening their Christian faith and equipping them to be goodwill ambassadors for the Holy Land.

These tours are unique because they include both biblical and ancient sites and experiences along with modern Israel, including experts in government, national security, geopolitics, business, and technology. Covenant Journey is for Christian college students who have leadership potential. It provides a life-changing experience for approved students who pay only $500 for a one-of-a-kind 10-day tour experience. In addition, Liberty Counsel's ministry, Christians In Defense of Israel, consists of more than 200,000 Americans who stand in solidarity with the nation of Israel.
