Billings Weapons Call Ends With Man Being Shot While On Phone With Dispatch

June 6, 2016

INCIDENT:   Weapons call / shooting

Location: 8900 block of Longmeadow Drive

Initial information:

According to  Sheriff Mike Linder of the  Yellowstone County Sheriff's Officer, Detectives and Deputies are still on scene of a shooting in the 8900 block of Long-meadow Dr. west of Billings. This is a brief synopsis of the call that came in and what I know at this time.

At approximately 12:15 AM on this date, Deputies were dispatched to a weapons call in the 8900 block of Long-meadow Drive.

The caller told the dispatcher that he saw several people with weapons.

While the caller was talking on the phone he reported that someone broke out a window.

The dispatch log does not state specifically, but I believe the window that was broken was on the caller’s residence.

At this time it is undetermined who broke the window or how. The caller reported that someone was kicking the front door and at that time a shot was fired from inside the residence.

The subjects outside fled the area in several vehicles. Within a couple of minutes a subject called dispatch to advise they were headed to a business on Shiloh Rd.

to meet with an ambulance. The type of injury has not yet been confirmed. Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives are interviewing the subjects involved. It appears that there were 8-10 subjects involved in the incident, most of them in their 20s.

This appears to be an isolated incident and the subjects involved know each other. I do not believe there is further danger to the community in relation to this incident.

This investigation is still in the early stages more information will reported on as it becomes available to the Media.

Shooting update

This incident occurred at 8930, Longmeadow Drive.

Detectives investigating the case have determined that an adult male who was outside the residence has sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He and others with him went to the Scheels parking lot where they met with an ambulance.

Information gathered to this point indicates that several subjects arrived at the complainants house in order to confront one of the residents about an incident that had occurred on an earlier date.

A window on the house was broken during the confrontation and investigators believe the window was broken from the outside.

At least one person inside the house fired a gun through the door, striking the victim. Evidence shows that more than one shot was fired but it appears the victim was hit just one time.

Investigators believe they have spoken to all of the individuals involved with exception of the man who was shot and is currently receiving medical attention.

Vehicles have been impounded and other evidence has also been collected. More search warrants will likely be served in the next few days.

No Arrests have been made as of this date and time.
