BOSTON, MA - Liberty Counsel recently sent a letter to the Massachusetts House of Representatives urging them not to pass House Bill 4253 (formerly HB1577), known as the Bathroom Bill. This bill would impose criminal penalties (including up to a year in jail) on business owners who attempt to prevent biological men from using women's facilities.
Massachusetts legislature already passed a "transgender" rights bill in 2011. The only public accommodations not covered under this existing law and policy are bathrooms, locker rooms and other lawfully sex-segregated facilities.
"Allowing men to use women's bathrooms, showers and locker rooms puts both women and children in situations of grave danger," said Liberty Counsel's Founder and Chairman Mat Staver.
"Evidence shows that bathrooms are one of the most prevalent places in which sexual assault and rape occur. This legislation will make women and girls even greater targets for rapists, pedophiles and voyeurs. Women should not be forced to undress or shower in the presence of men. This violates their constitutional right to privacy and safety," said Staver.
