The Billings Police Department is asking the public’s help in identifying the subject in the attached still photos. This Robbery occurred at 16 Shiloh Road the Zip Trip on 4/26/16. Report number 16-25946. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the 657-8200 or Crimestoppers at 245-6660.
Note that the man is a young man, very thin in frame structure but has very large hands. By the way that he holds the M16 556/coltm16 it indicated that the individual is not experienced with guns or long rifles such as this.
His stance also indicates and shows that he has never had any military training, nor firearm training or experience.
The firearm he is using in this robbery is an old school military M16-556 and is actually rare and hard for even gun collectors to get their hands on. This weapon is probably a relatives weapon or a weapon that has come out of an Estate Sale.
In talking with Scheels, the Montana News has learned that this type of gun is a highly sought after weapon, just based on the fact that there are so few of them out in the public now.
The new versions of this same type of gun look like this:
or like these:
As far as the robbers decision to rob this store, it appears that he did not take notice of where exactly Zip Trip security cameras are placed. The Montana News discovered that this particular ZipTrip store has strong security ONLY on the front of the store and on the South side of the store.
That leaves the Zip Trip wide open as NO security cameras are on the North side of the building or on the West back end of the building. So a get-away for this robber would be very easy with at least 5 different access points from and leaving the store once the robber left the building.
Notice the locations and mounting positions of the 16 Shiloh Zip Trip cameras:
In the front window, notice the two large round cameras with a two little cameras next to the large cameras.
Their are two security cameras on the North corner of the building. but no cameras on the North side of the building nor the back west end of the building. This leaves an open space for a robber to evacuate easily from those sides without being observed.
Note, just one security camera on the South corner of the building. This camera points towards the fuel pumps only.
The Montana News in speaking with a retired Military expert on security, indicated that this store is wide open for being robbed. The expert did say that Zip Trip stores in general, with this type of camera set up is bound to be breached with success.
A call was placed to Rick Bates who is the PR person for the Zip Trip Stores. He is located in Spokane Washington. Mr. Rick Bates did not return the Media's calls.
