Billings Police Sergeant Matt Brewer Resigned On Monday Amidst Allegations Of Off-Duty Misconduct and Violation Of Department Policy

April 27, 2016

According to Billings Police Chief Rich St. John, Sergeant Matt Brewer voluntarily resigned from the Billings Police Department on Monday, April 25, 2016.

Brewer, a 17 hear veteran, has been on paid administrative leave since February 1, 2016, pending the conclusion of an internal investigation into allegations of off-duty misconduct and violation of department policy.

Brewer’s resignation effectively ended the department’s internal investigation before a disposition was reached.

Rumors flew rampant in the Billings Public, such as Brewer had a drinking problem, to Brewer was dating a known infamous felon, Angela Corson aka formerly Smith.

No one knows for sure what the off-duty misconduct and violation of Department policy was, but another rumor existed was that Brewer was caught passing a cell phone/smuggling a cell phone into a correctional facility where his girlfriend is incarcerated.  What ever it was  apparently,  it was serious and caused the department a black eye.    All of these rumors are just that rumors and nothing has been verified or substatiaed so this leaves the public still in the lurk.

In an article dated Feb 17, 2016 and written By JORDON NIEDERMEIER of the Billings Gazette,

a commentor posted this comment on a blog.   "  Pipeguy Feb 19, 2016 5:26am All this speculation and rumors would not exist if the police dept. would be honest with the public and let us know what is going on. Rules that prevent transparency in government cause way more problems than they solve. The days of the police force living in a cloak and dagger world of secrecy are over. And the public will find out anyway, even if it takes another lawsuit to force the dept. to release the info. "

So really it was not a surprise that the resignation came about earlier this week.     Many in the public hold to the fact that Billings Police Chief Rich St. John  has fostered an environment of distrust of police vs. public.
