3rd Robbery in Three Days: This Time At West-End Walmart In Billings

DATE:  4/6/16     


TYPE OF INCIDENT:  Armed Robbery (16-21242)


LOCATION:   West-end Walmart


On 4/6/16 at 1340 hours BPD officers were dispatched to a reported shoplifter at the West-end Walmart. 


Prior to police arrival it was reported that the suspect had pulled a handgun on employees who were attempting to detain him and fled the area in a white Volkswagon Bug. 


The suspect, later identified as Raymond Kauffman (57) was located driving the described vehicle through the Home Depot parking lot. 


When marked units attempted to stop the vehicle the suspect sped away and a pursuit was initiated. 


During the pursuit officers could see the suspect brandishing a handgun in the vehicle.  The suspect led officers into a vacant field north of the Knife River plant on Shilo Road where he became stuck.  The suspect exited the vehicle, again brandishing the handgun, and fled on foot.


  Officers chased the suspect and he was arrested a short distance away after a brief struggle.  There were no injuries. 


The suspect is in custody and charged with Robbery.  Other charges are pending based upon the outcome of the on-going investigation.
